This is my block print and it is the same carnation/rose flower as my pen and ink stippled picture. Although it the same flower, I used a different method to show the texture and shadow/shape of the flower (lines instead of dots). I used a linoleum block that was carved to print the picture, which is black ink on white paper. I learned how to carve to create texture and a picture, how to print a picture of a block, how to cut a matte (is this how you spell it?), and how to make editions of the picture and record the different ones. The main art elements are space (to create the shape), lines (to create the negative space), texture and value (created with the lines as well). The composition of the piece creates a flower in dramatic lighting, because although there is some transition between the highlights and shadows of the petals, the contrast overall created by the space, the absence of color, and the sudden change in value is considerable. These also contribute to the mood the picture elicits, awe.
